Bible Studies

Is God calling you to develop a deeper Spiritual Life and learn more about the Bible? If so, join or start a Bible study!  We offer various short-term courses throughout the year, so check back often to see what's available!  Our long-term studies start in the fall. Descriptions are available below.

SHORT TERM BIBLE STUDIES

Beth Moore's Daniel StudyBeth Moore Daniel Bible Study

Join Beth in a faith-building study of prophecy and learn how to live with integrity in today's self-absorbed society. The prophet Daniel faced unbelievable pressures to compromise his faith, to live in a hostile culture, and to confront temptations and threats. Today, believers in Jesus Christ face many of the same trials.

 Morning and evening sessions
Wednesdays beginning September 1.

Disciple Bible Study

The Disciple program is different from other Bible studies in that it aims for transformation, not just information. Participants in the program emerge as stronger Christian leaders with a sense of their own direction in personal ministry. A brief description of each course in the Disciple series is given below. More information on the Disciple series, including an introductory video, can be found on Cokesbury's Disciple Family of Products web page.

The theme of Disciple I is Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study. This 34-week study is the foundation of the Disciple Bible Study program. Groups will move through the biblical story from Creation to the New Jerusalem. The study gives equal time to both the Old and New Testament, emphasizing the wholeness of the Bible as the revelation of God.

The theme of Disciple II is Into the Word Into the World. This 32-week study encourages persons to open themselves to hearing what God has to say to them through the Bible and to be guided into service in the world by Scripture and their study of it. Equal attention is given to both the Old and New Testament with concentration on four books: Genesis, Exodus, Luke, and Acts (eight lessons on each book).

Several themes weave their way through Disciple III Remember Who You Are – the call to remember; the call to repentance; the need for renewed vision (eyes to see, ears to hear); and the place of community. This study concentrates on the Old Testament prophets and the letters of Paul. The prophets and Paul are continually calling hearers and readers back to their God and to a sense of who they are as a people “set apart.”

Disciple IV Under the Tree of Life concentrates on the writings in the Old Testament – Ruth, 1 and 2 Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther, Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon, Lamentations, and Daniel. New Testament Scriptures include the Gospel of John; 1, 2, and 3 John; James; Jude; and Revelation.

Jesus in the Gospels is the first in the second generation of Disciple studies. It invites believers to look at Jesus in each of the four Gospels and ask the question "who is the Jesus that you see?" This study will deepen discipleship through better understanding of the biblical texts and their message.

Disciple I (short term) Invitation to the New Testament is an eight-week, in-depth study modeled after the basic design of Disciple Study.

Christian Believer

This 30-week study of the classical doctrines of the Christian faith presents, explains, an interprets Christian doctrine. The series builds on the idea that informed believing leads to committed discipleship.

More information on Christian Believer can be found on Cokesbury's Christian Believer web page.

Companions in Christ

This series is a powerfully transforming small group experience that builds on spiritual practices, helping participants open more fully to God and one another. This 28-week journey will draw you into daily time with God through individual reading and reflection, and will gather you weekly with others for 1 1/2 to 2 hours of deeper exploration.

More information on the Companions in Christ can be found on Cokesbury's Companions in Christ web page.
