The United Methodist Church is intentionally decentralized, but is also connectional. Groups of churches in a geographic area are organized to form a district. Each district is led by a district superintendent, an elder appointed by the bishop. Tucker First UMC is part of the Atlanta-Emory District, which is the largest district in the North Georgia Conference.
Each year, clergy and non-clergy (lay people) meet together for Annual Conference to worship, fellowship, and conduct the business of the North Georgia Conference: adopting future goals, programs and budgets; ordaining clergy members as deacons and elders; and electing delegates to Jurisdictional and General Conferences.
Note: Not all committees meet every month.
